Nekoda Garrett’s journey into acting began with a deep-rooted passion for the arts, having been immersed in the world of dance since the age of four. Her transition from dance to acting felt natural, driven by her love for film and the expressive nature of performing on stage.
In preparing for a new role, Nekoda has a meticulous process. She begins by reading the entire script multiple times to grasp the story and her character’s essence. Highlighting her lines, she learns them in sections, practicing aloud to internalize the dialogue. An app on her phone plays the lines of other characters, allowing her to respond as if in a real conversation, enhancing her memorization and delivery.
One of the most challenging roles Nekoda has tackled was in the production “Unforgiven.” To bring her character to life, she had to delve deep into her own life experiences, drawing parallels to her character’s story. This emotional connection, even with fictional elements, allowed her to deliver a compelling performance.
Navigating the highs and lows of the acting industry, including auditions and rejections, is something Nekoda approaches with grace. She acknowledges the difficulty of rejection but emphasizes the importance of perseverance and maintaining a positive outlook.
A particularly memorable experience on set for Nekoda was during the filming of “The Whispering.” She recalls a scene where she had to perform an evil laugh, and unexpectedly, the director asked her to scream. Staying in character, she let out a high-pitched scream that startled the sound technician. Despite losing her voice after multiple takes, the effort was worthwhile as it translated into an impressive scene on screen.
Nekoda draws inspiration from actresses like Sandra Bullock, Jodie Foster, and Julia Roberts, admiring their diverse abilities and having grown up watching them. Balancing her personal life with her acting career is something she manages well, using quieter periods to spend time with family, hone her craft, learn new accents, and attend workshops.
