In the labyrinth of life, paths often diverge unexpectedly, leading us to destinations we never envisioned. Such is the tale of one individual whose journey from a degree in computer science to the artistry of hairstyling unveils the unpredictable twists of fate. Meet Hana Al Karbi, a remarkable woman whose narrative epitomizes the fusion of passion, family bonds, and the ever-evolving landscape of beauty trends.

In a world where dreams often follow a predetermined path, Hana’s journey to becoming a hairstylist was anything but conventional. While her sister’s aspirations of mastering makeup artistry were unwavering from an early age, Hana found herself charting a different course. It wasn’t until a casual suggestion from her mother that the spark of curiosity ignited, leading her down an unexpected avenue that would redefine her future.

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional avenues of work and creativity were disrupted. Yet, amidst the chaos, Hana found opportunity. Leveraging the power of digital platforms, she embraced social media as a stage to showcase her talents and connect with a global audience.

“Social media became my virtual salon,” Hana shares. “With each post and tutorial, I found a way to not only share my expertise but also to inspire and connect with fellow beauty enthusiasts worldwide.” With an impressive following on Instagram and TikTok, Hana’s reach extended far beyond her wildest dreams. Her captivating hairstyling tutorials captivated audiences, garnering millions of views and establishing her as a trailblazer in the realm of online beauty content. She says:

“For me, discovering the nuances of different hair types has always been fascinating,” Hana shares. “Each client presents a unique canvas, and finding the perfect hairstyle to complement their personality and overall look is truly an art.”

Indeed, hairstyling is a constantly evolving art form, with new trends emerging every day. “Keeping up with the trends is essential,” Hana explains. “But what truly excites me is the process of crafting the perfect hairstyle, taking into account everything from the client’s personality to their attire and desired aesthetic.”

Living in a region where women are encouraged to pursue their dreams has been instrumental in Hana’s journey. “I believe that being recognized for your work not only motivates other women but also demonstrates that there are no limits to what you can achieve,” she reflects. Throughout her 10-year career, Hana has continually sought to expand her knowledge and expertise. “I’ve had the privilege of learning from professionals from diverse backgrounds and countries,” she says. “Each experience has enriched my understanding of hairstyling and inspired me to explore new approaches and styles.”

Collaborating with her sister Nadia, a talented makeup artist, has been a highlight of Hana’s career. “Working together allows us to coordinate our efforts and create a cohesive look for our clients,” she explains. “When hair and makeup complement each other, along with the bride’s gown and personality, the result is truly magical.”

“To all those women and anyone else considering this career path, my advice is simple: start learning, hold onto your passion, and don’t let any obstacles stand in your way.”

In today’s digital age, access to knowledge has never been easier. Hana encourages aspiring hairstylists to take advantage of online resources such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, where countless professionals share valuable tutorials and tips.

“Mastering the basics is the first step,” she advises. “Once you’ve honed your skills, don’t be afraid to get creative and put your own spin on trending styles.” Collaborating with friends and family can also be a valuable learning experience. “Offering free hairstyling services to loved ones is not only a great way to practice but also a chance to build your portfolio and gain confidence in your abilities,” Hana suggests. “Word of mouth can be a powerful tool in building your clientele.”

Receiving messages from women seeking guidance on entering the hairstyling profession reaffirms the impact of my journey. My advice to them echoes the essence of perseverance and leveraging available resources, emphasizing the limitless opportunities afforded by digital platforms. Empowering others to explore their creative potential is a fulfilling aspect of my role, transcending geographical boundaries.

In the Arabian world, where tradition meets modernity, hairstyling emerges as a powerful form of cultural expression and identity. Hailing from the picturesque city of Al Ain, nestled near Dubai, Hana’s journey reflects the rich tapestry of tradition, innovation, and beauty that defines Arab hairstyling. For Hana, hairstyling is more than just a profession, it’s a celebration of individuality and pride. “In the Arab world, hair is not simply hair,” she shares. “It’s a symbol of identity, a source of pride, and a canvas for self-expression.”

On a personal level, Hana finds solace and inspiration in her familial bonds and the simple joys of life. “Amidst the whirlwind of professional pursuits, I cherish moments spent with loved ones,” she reflects. “These connections ground me and remind me of the importance of authenticity and timeless elegance.” As Hana continues to weave her way through the dynamic world of Arab hairstyling, her journey serves as a testament to the enduring beauty of tradition, the power of innovation, and the universal language of creativity.

Looking to the future, Hana’s aspirations extend far beyond her hometown. “I envision myself as an international educator and ambassador for hairstyling,” she reveals. “By sharing my knowledge and passion with aspiring hairstylists around the world, I hope to contribute to the global hairstyling community and inspire creativity across diverse cultures.”
